Introduction to IIAD Entrance Exam
The Indian Institute of Art and Design (IIAD), New Delhi, in collaboration with Kingston School of Art at Kingston University, London, conducts its own national-level entrance exam to shortlist candidates for its varied design and business management courses.
The exam is split into two tracks based on the course selected:

iDAT (IIAD Design Aptitude Test): For candidates applying to core design programs (Fashion Design, Communication Design, Interior Architecture & Design).

iMAT (IIAD Management Aptitude Test): For candidates applying to Fashion Business Management and Luxury Business Management programs.

Admission to the following undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses is granted based on the candidate's performance in the IIAD Entrance Exam.

Eligibility Criteria
Before applying, candidates must ensure they meet the specific academic requirements set by IIAD.
Undergraduate (UG) Eligibility

Academic Qualification: Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination (or equivalent) in any stream (Science, Commerce, Humanities, or Arts) from a recognized board such as CBSE, ISC, State Board, or IB.

Minimum Marks: An aggregate of at least 50% marks in the qualifying examination.

Appearing Candidates: Students appearing for their Class 12 board examinations in the current academic year are also eligible to apply.
Postgraduate (PG) Eligibility

Academic Qualification: Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institute.

Appearing Candidates: Final-year graduation students awaiting their results can also apply for the PG programs.
Exemption for Architecture Students
Candidates applying for the B.A. (Hons) Interior Architecture & Design program are exempted from the iDAT written test if they hold a valid NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) score. These candidates can proceed directly to the Personal Interview and Portfolio Evaluation round.

The IIAD Entrance Exam is designed to test holistic aptitude rather than rote learning. Both the iDAT and iMAT are comprehensive tests tailored to their respective fields.

Detailed Admission Process
The selection at IIAD goes beyond a single written exam. It is a multi-tier process ensuring that candidates possess the right blend of technical skill and creative passion.
Stage 1: The Written Test (iDAT / iMAT)
Candidates first appear for the written aptitude test in either the online mode from their homes (with remote proctoring) or offline at designated exam centers in major cities across India.
Stage 2: Studio Simulation (For UG Design Candidates)
Those who clear the iDAT for UG courses are called for a Studio Simulation. This is a 2-hour interactive activity where candidates work in groups to create a 3D model or solve a design problem using provided materials. It tests teamwork, material handling, problem-solving, and on-the-spot creativity.
Stage 3: Personal Interview (For PG & Management Candidates)
Candidates applying for PG design programs or any management program (UG/PG) via iMAT will undergo a Personal Interview instead of the Studio Simulation. The interview evaluates the candidate's communication skills, industry awareness, and overall suitability for the program.
Stage 4: Portfolio Evaluation
Candidates are highly encouraged to present a portfolio of their creative work during the interview or studio simulation. A portfolio can include sketches, paintings, digital art, photography, or any creative writing pieces, helping the evaluation panel assess the candidate's personal style and artistic journey.
