The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR), located in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India, is one of the oldest and most prestigious technical institutions in India. It was formerly known as the University of Roorkee, established in 1847 as the first engineering college in British India.
In 2001, the University of Roorkee was granted the status of an Indian Institute of Technology, and it was renamed as IIT Roorkee. Today, it offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in various engineering, applied sciences, management, and humanities fields.
